You Me and Everyone We Know

In this work one hundred people are united by a common gesture. Over the course of a year, Glithero invited friends, family, colleagues, neighbours and collaborators, into their studio’s photographic darkroom and captured the silhouettes of their hands upon a vessel.

The Green Room is a kinetic installation that was designed for a six storey stairwell at the Victoria and Albert Museum. Suspended from the ceiling above, a curtain barrel of multicoloured silicon cords moves slowly in a wave like motion creating an ever changing kaleidoscope of colour.

Running Mould is a bench made by blowing up the technique of making plaster cornices on a big scale. The shape of the bench was built up gradually by scraping layers of wet plaster with a former pivoting around the centre of the gallery. It was a physical process that took a team of six people three days to complete, mixing two tons of plaster by hand

Nez is a museum exhibition that we designed about perfumery. Challenged with finding a way of showing fragrance in a museum environment, we created 6 rooms that present the perfumes using canny physical engagements; From fans that are lifted from the surface of tables, to vessels that release the perfume when the visitor pulls down on helium balloons; Each concept required the visitor to explore and interact with the installations in order to access the scent.

Datum is a dance performance that explores our conscious spatial awareness versus our empirical understanding of space using tools. The performance was a collaboration with dance artists Siobhan Davis and Helka Kaski and toured a number of venues throughout the UK.‍

Big Dipper is an autonomous machine that creates candle-wax chandeliers by repeatedly dipping frames of strung wick into molten wax. The machine works with a clockwork mechanism that slowly revolves, until one frame in turn hangs directly above a heated barrel of wax. When in position, a dipping motion is triggered which plunges the strung frame into the wax, so that it builds up a layer. One cycle takes one hour. After twelve dipping cycles twenty four wax chandeliers are made.

Fantoom is a museum exhibition where the artefacts are presented as ephemeral reflections. The exhibition plays with issues that arise from making and conserving museum collections, such as permanence and value.

Long Drop is a concept for a large-scale poured table that wraps itself around the space it was made in. Conventionally moulds are cast into, but Long Drop flips that idea inside out. Parts of the pouring channel are assembled within a building, so that it wraps itself around the space. Poly concrete is then poured down the channel and allowed to harden before the mould is disassembled. The casting that is left, a lava-like winding sculpture, contains all the clues of its own making. It is also a path that leads you towards its origin; The point in the air from which the material was poured.

Luminaries is an installation of sculptures that only exist in the eye of the beholder.
Using the technique of Peppers Ghost, we created a collection of light sculptures that consist of neons and wire frames. These two elements are kept a distance apart, but are visually brought together by reflecting one onto the other using panes of glass.

Lost Time is an installation of strung beads that are reflected over a shallow body of still water. The weight of the suspended beads creates natural drapes that, when reflected in the surface of the water, appear as a landscape of towering structures.

Woven Song is an exhibition of objects and documentation from our endeavour to weave fabric using organ music punched cards. Around a central film installation, the exhibition presents the objects and artefacts from the process in specially designed cases.

Poured Bar is a bar top made by pouring. Buckets of poly concrete are poured over a flat surface in succession until a thick layer is formed. After the poly concrete is fully set, it is flipped over and mounted onto a timber frame. The different coloured pools and swirls of the first pours become the lasting surface of the bar.

Panta Rei is a mechanical candle dipping installation. Each one of twenty four strings passes through an eyelet and pulley, before attaching to the end of a single CAM arm. As the arm slowly revolves, the strings are lifted and lowered in a cylindrical wave motion. The candle wick at the end of the strings is in turn dipped into a drum of molten candle wax, so that a thin layer of wax builds up each time. Over a number of cycles, a full harvest of candles is made.
